Kia ora! We are Rody and Karen O’Reilly, the owners and operators of Coast Montessori Preschool (since we established it 12 years ago) and of Coast’s sister centre, Brainwaves Preschool (also in Silverdale).
We have each worked in early childhood education for 16 plus years as both owners and teachers in multiple centres. We have three children of our own, now all young adults, who are a constant reminder that no two people in the world are the same. They have taught us to see each person with a holistic perspective, celebrating that which makes us each so very individual. We approach your child’s early learning journey this way too, appreciating their unique combination of interests, strengths and prior experiences.
16 years ago we were introduced to, and immediately fascinated by, the Montessori philosophy. We love how it recognizes the uniqueness of every child, and allows them to lead their own learning journey, in their own way, and at their own speed. Coast Montessori Preschool draws its philosophy heavily from the work of Maria Montessori, complemented by the work of respected international educational and developmental theorists from RIE to Reggio Emilio, and reflecting our modern context in 21st century Aotearoa New Zealand. All of this is woven through our curriculum, practice, and physical environment, creating an irresistible environment of fun, laughter and learning to support every child to develop their own unique abilities and discover their own unlimited potential.

We have a mixed age classroom for children aged two to five. We love the opportunities this creates for younger children learn by observing and interacting with older friends, while older children deepen their understanding and gain confidence by mentoring younger ones
